Large space with many trails and amazing views all around. You dont even need to hike a long trail for this. We saw a red tailed hawk, a hummingbird and some native flowers. A must see if you are in Ventura County.

This is a beautiful natural park/hiking area. During the spring, when the temperature is still cool and it has rained the hills come alive and turn a wonderful green. There are plenty of trails to explore here, even a very cool cave to check out! It does get busy here on the weekends, but the paid parking is open. You can also park nearby on the streets for free.

Park with lots of trails to choose from. From beginners to advanced. Climbing to the tallest mountain allows you to see the entire San Fernando Valley in all its glory.

Great view at the top at Castle Peak. We got there through the Cave of Munits. It was my first time visiting and difficult for me to get a leg up on the last hurtle into the cave- the rock was smooth and almost vertical, no foothold or anything to grab to boost up the 5ft except for the nylon rope that was there. I hike and do light scrambling every weekend, but this one I had to holler for help for someone to pull me up for fear of slipping and falling. Up and out of the cave was doable, but the dirt trail to the ridge was steep and loose at spots and required focus. Really good workout, and the view was spectacular with wild flowers and lush hills after all the rains we had. But I would not recommend this unless you have proper footwear at the least and not recommended for those with fear of height. The way down had no switchbacks from Castle Peak. It was steep and loose rocks all the way. Do not go alone. Would also help to protect your knees (at least no shorts) and hands. I had knee pads and climbing gloves which came into good use quite a bit. I'm sure my opinion will change after doing this a few times but this was my first time impression 😉

This place is amazing! Beautiful hike! Challenging with gorgeous views. The caves were a challenge to climb and see if coming up from behind. Great place to get a workout and enjoy nature. Dog friendly as well.

Great place to hike anytime of year but especially in the Springtime after lots of rain when the hills turn a stunning green. Great place to enjoy Sunrises in the quiet of the morning and Sunsets at the end of the day, trails that seem to go forever and plenty of challenging hills to get an intense cardio workout.

The true native landscape of California that brought so many ranchers who wanted to build large herds is reflected in the beautiful native grasses and clusters of scrub oak here. The trail system is mostly very nice but a few trails have more than a 20% grade which is reflected in the washed-out conditions of the path. There are several choices for Vista views but focus on what's right in front of you with the local flora and fauna. The bird observation is great and if you settle in a spot, you will see a few reptiles. Be sure to bring plenty of water as there's not a lot of shade and you will dehydrate quickly.

Sadly, like many areas for hiking in California, the highlight of a cave is greatly diminished with the tagging and trash around the cave. Not worth the trek over to see it IMO. However, unlike some other trailhead parking lots, this one is clean and fairly well maintained. Probably because of the parking fee (miniscule $ amount and well worth it if it keeps the areas clean) and possibly a good volunteer effort. Many hikers skipped the fees and parked down the hill in the neighborhood. Too bad they can't see the value of supporting an area.

Also, this is a great location to hike with your dog but keep in mind that most owners seem to think leashes are an unnecessary accessory as none of the dogs were attached to the owners as far as I could see.
